Bulkley endeavors to abide by the following philosophy and investment criteria in determining which opportunities to pursue:
- Companies led by a solid management team with a proven track record of past accomplishments and a meaningful ownership stake in the company.
- Bulkley will generally seek to represent companies operating in the middle markets. We believe opportunities to create value are often greater in this segment, and this is where our
firm can have a more meaningful impact.
- Adherence to an investment strategy that is based on a sensible capital structure, resulting in greater predictability of investment return. We believe that over the long-term, the
results of this strategy will surpass a strategy that attempts to achieve high returns by regularly incurring significant financial leverage.
- A preference to work with businesses that have attained critical mass. Generally, Bulkley will seek out client companies with a total enterprise valuation in excess of $10 million and
free cash flow of at least 10% of revenues.
- Exceptions to the rule of critical mass are considered when a senior management team of a large and well-respected company resigns to form a new enterprise and can capitalize the venture
with a meaningful personal investment.
